Reddit Collectible Avatars

The one that hid the blockchain successfully, then switched it off anyway.

Comfortably the largest of these by reach: artist-made avatars on Polygon, sold for ordinary money to millions of Reddit users who mostly never learned a blockchain was involved. That was the interesting part — the wallet was invisible. Reddit stopped onboarding creators, closed the Avatar Shop in November 2025 and removed the in-app vault, moving secondary fees to artists and leaving users to export wallets by 1 January 2026. The head of the programme had resigned earlier in the year as sales fell.
